Burning Water" is an experimental short film about a breakup, told from the boy's perspective. The film uses fire and water to represent the contrasting emotions between the couple. The girl splits into different versions of herself, visually showcasing her inner turmoil and self-discovery.
Working on this project was a pleasure, especially because the director is a good friend of mine. We aimed to create a sound design that perfectly matched the film's stunning visuals. As the girl transforms, the soundscape changes to reflect her different emotional states. I carefully selected sounds, like fire and water, to highlight the conflict and resolution within their relationship. The boy's narration is underscored by subtle background sounds, emphasizing his emotional journey.
"Burning Water," directed by Noa Röthlisberger, is a beautiful exploration of love, loss, and identity. The experimental nature of the film allowed for a lot of creative freedom with the sound design, making it a truly unique project. This experience showed me how powerful sound can be in enhancing visual storytelling, and I'm proud of the work we accomplished together.
